For my current research project on the Vietnam war, I am planning to interview men and women who immigrated to Canada to resist the Vietnam war and the draft. I will be using oral histories, archival research into the politics of the antiwar movement, and an analysis of media coverage of draft resistance in Canada and the United States to develop a book on the history of antiwar activism in Canada. The book will explore the politics of draft resistance in the Vietnam war, the ways in which mainstream and alternative media portrayed draft dodgers, the role of women in draft resistance, and the intersection of women’s liberation and left-Canadian nationalism with the antiwar movement.
